Jenny McCarthy Actress and Author
As co-host of the popular MTV series "Singled Out," Jenny's outrageous and fun-loving personality made her an instant favorite with television viewers. Following a guest appearance on the NBC comedy "Wings," she segued into her own MTV comedy/variety show, "The Jenny McCarthy Show." The success of "The Jenny McCarthy Show" led to her NBC sitcom, "Jenny," in 1997, as well as subsequent appearances on episodes of "The Drew Carey Show," "Just Shoot Me" and Showtime's "Going to California." She has made recurring appearances on such series as "Less Than Perfect," "All About the Andersons," "One on One" and "Hope and Faith" and starred in UPN's "The Bad Girl's Guide." Among her many television hosting appearances she co-hosted the 1998 MTV Europe Music Awards & 2002 American Music Awards with Sean "Puffy" Combs. Jenny's most recent television project was starring in the ABC Family holiday movie, "Santa Baby" which aired in December 2006. "Santa Baby" was such a success it became the highest rated original movie in the network's history. McCarthy has been featured on the covers of magazines around the world. She appeared in a memorably clever ad and commercial campaign for Candie's shoes, as well as a second ad, with "American Idol" star Kelly Clarkson. Her popularity amongst the ad community is evidenced by a constant flow of endorsement and sponsorship deals. In 2006, Jenny began working with Weight Watchers encouraging healthy living and nutrition for new moms trying to lose weight post pregnancy. Her sense-of-humor, honest approach and refreshing public appeal earned her another role - as national spokesperson for their 2007 ad campaign, "Be an After. Stay an After". McCarthy made her motion picture debut in the Miramax film, "Things To Do In Denver When You're Dead, with Andy Garcia and Christopher Walken. Her film credits also include Universal's "BASEketball" in 1998 with Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the creators of Comedy Central's "South Park," and the independent feature, "The Perfect You." She co-starred in "Diamonds," with Kirk Douglas, Lauren Bacall and Dan Ackroyd, "Scream 3" with David Arquette, Neve Campbell and Courtney Cox and, and co-starred in the worldwide box-office hit, "Scary Movie 3." She wrote and starred in the independent feature, "Dirty Love," which first premiered at Sundance in 2005 and then released theatrically in September 2005. The following year in August 2006, she appeared in FOX's "John Tucker Must Die" with Brittany Snow, Jesse Metcalf and Ashanti, for director Betty Thomas. HarperCollins published McCarthy's autobiography, Jen-X, in the Fall of 1997. Her comedic take on pregnancy and childbirth, Belly Laughs, was released in Spring 2004 and earned a spot on the prestigious New York Times Bestseller List. A follow-up, Baby Laughs, published in Spring 2005, also made the New York Times list. A third book in this successful series, Life Laughs, released a year later in spring 2006. Jenny's fourth book, "Louder than Words" (Dutton) will be available Sept. 17th 2007. McCarthy grew up in Chicago in an Irish Catholic family, along with two sisters. She majored in nursing at Southern Illinois University for two years-until she decided to take a chance on an acting career. She packed a U-haul and drove cross-country to Hollywood, where she soon found work modeling and in commercials. McCarthy lives in Los Angeles with her son Evan.
